I recently upgraded from a Freestyle Libre 2 to a 3+. I had some overlap. I measured both. This is what I saw:
Now, its probably not fair that the 3+ was new (15 days left) and the 2 was at the end of its period – CGM’s get less sensitive towards the end of their window, but there’s a few things I notice:
- Not visible here: Its smaller, and it does not need to be scanned. It sends alerts directly to the phone, scared me a bit the first time.
- It updates more often, higher resolution.
I still am not sure about it vs the fingerprick TruMetrix. I thought the 2 was behaving inaccurately, hence i got the 3+, however, it might be my fingerprick glucometer is not doing the right thing. I’m going to order some calibration media to make sure that thing is accurate.
Along those lines, there could also be a difference between interstitial vs blood – the former lags behind. AND, depending on what my muscles are doing and where my weight is being propped at, my tricep/bicep can drain the sugar from the local area.
Anyhoo. I got the above put together using “Seashore“, a simple image editor to use on a mac, similar to Paint.Net on Windows.
PS: Don’t judge me too harshly. There’s some Christmas celebrating, and some beer drinking and pretzel eating in the above.
